==== Wire ==== Wires are semirigid or flexible conductors of electricity, made from one or multiple and often thin, hairlike rods of a conductive material, usually metal. They are often jacketed (covered) in an [[insulation]], and when multiple wires are bundled together and jacketed with insulation they are called [[cable]]s. Wires that are constructed from multiple smaller rods of metal twisted together are often called //stranded// wire and the individual rods //strands//. If a wire is made from a single //thick// strand, it is referred to as //solid//, or //solid core//. un-insulated forms of wire are typically solid core, because stranded wire requires insulation to keep the strands from unraveling or //fraying//.
