Wire

This is an old revision of the document!

Wires are semirigid or flexible conductors of electricity, made from one or multiple and often thin, hairlike rods of a conductive material, usually metal. They are often jacketed (covered) in an insulation, and when multiple wires are bundled together and jacketed with insulation they are called cables. Wires that are constructed from multiple smaller rods of metal twisted together are often called stranded wire and the individual rods strands. If a wire is made from a single thick strand, it is referred to as solid, or solid core. un-insulated forms of wire are typically solid core, because stranded wire requires insulation to keep the strands from unraveling or fraying.
